Subject: | Eliminating the Age Limit on Widow & Widowers for Property Tax Rent Rebate Program |
The Property Tax Rent Rebate Program currently benefits eligible Pennsylvanians age 65 and older, widowers and widows age 50 and older, as well as individuals living with a disability age 18 and older. Since the program began in 1971, eligible recipients have received more than $6.9 billion in property tax and rent relief. Pennsylvania, on average, has historically levied higher property taxes on its residents than the national average. This tax can be especially burdensome for widows and widowers who face financial hardship after the loss of their spouse. In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that will eliminate the age requirement for widows and widowers to be eligible for this program. Widows and widowers must cope with the grief, loneliness, emotional as well as financial hardship. This legislation is aimed at providing some relief to those who may need it most. Please consider joining me in supporting this legislation. |
