Subject: | Allowing Workers to Opt-Out of Captive Audience Meetings |
Workers in Pennsylvania can currently be forced to listen to religious or political messages delivered by an employer in a captive audience meeting. If they refuse to attend this meeting, they could lose their jobs. Workers should not be faced with a decision that could negatively impact them or their family’s livelihood. These tactics bully employees, adds stress to their workplace, and if they refuse their life could be upended. I will be introducing a bill to allow workers to opt-out of attending a meeting organized by an employer with religious or political messaging without fear of retaliation. This includes prohibiting employers from threatening or retaliating against a worker due to lack of attendance. This allows employers to still hold meetings regarding their religious or political messages, while making it possible for workers to make the decision to not attend without potentially affecting their employment. Join me in supporting Pennsylvania workers by allowing them to choose for themselves if they want to attend meetings involving religious or political messaging at their workplace. Pennsylvania workers deserve protections and we should respect their decisions. |
