Subject: | Apprenticeship Education Expense Tax Credit Program (former HB1055) |
When a business has the foresight to train apprentices to fill future jobs, they should be recognized. We need to raise up workers and provide them with the education and tools to create a career for themselves and their families. Forward thinking not only strengthens the business, but it also supports our workers and strengthens the economy of the Commonwealth. My legislation will amend the Tax Reform Code of 1971, creating a tax credit for qualifying businesses to defray the cost of apprentice education expenses. Tax credits under the program will be awarded at $3,500 per qualifying apprentice, with a possible $1,500 additional tax credit if the apprentice lives in an underserved area or the principal location of the business is located in an underserved area. By providing this incentive, the youth of Pennsylvania will retain the option of seeking apprenticeships and participating businesses are assured of capable workers into the future.
