Subject: | Creating an Independent Energy Office |
Over the past few years, Pennsylvania families have all felt the strain of rising costs and record inflation. Pennsylvanians of all income levels are struggling to afford basic necessities such as food and clothing. A major component of this strain can be attributed to ever-rising energy costs. Now, due to failed energy policies at the federal and state levels, they are struggling to afford to heat their homes and turn their lights on. In the near future I will be reintroducing legislation (HB2573 of 2023-2024) to create the Independent Energy Office within the Independent Regulatory Review Commission with a mission of promoting affordable, reliable energy within the Commonwealth. The Independent Energy Office would have an ideal perspective to facilitate this pivotal goal. The head of the new office would require Senate confirmation and would be charged with approving any regulation or action of a state agency that would impact the Commonwealth’s energy portfolio. Co-Sponsors from last session include: Kaufer, Fritz, Cabell, Hogan, Owlett, E. Nelson, Gillen, Greiner, Oberlander, Smith and Stender I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. |
