Subject: | Optional Property Tax Freeze Program |
As property tax rates continue to rise, many Pennsylvanians on fixed incomes, including seniors, widows and widowers, and individuals with disabilities, struggle to afford their property taxes. While programs like Property Tax Rent Rebate (PTRR) offer some relief, they do not prevent tax increases, leaving vulnerable citizens at risk of losing their homes. My legislation would provide additional property tax relief by establishing an optional property tax freeze program for individuals who qualify for PTRR and have lived in their homes for at least 10 years. This program would lock in the property tax payment amounts, ensuring that individuals are not further burdened by increasing tax rates. Unlike other programs that focus solely on seniors, my legislation includes widowers aged 50 and older, as well as adults with disabilities. This legislation will help ensure that vulnerable Pennsylvanians can stay in their homes by providing stable and predictable property tax payments. By easing the financial strain on those who need it most, we can help people remain in the communities they have called home for many years. |
