MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 3, 2025 01:44 PM
From: Representative Steven R. Malagari
To: All House members
Subject: Recognizing March 26, 2025, as “Bangladesh Day” in Pennsylvania

Bangladesh, a south Asian country of more than 167 million people, is located in the Bay of Bengal between India and Myanmar. On March 26, 1971, East Pakistan declared independence from West Pakistan and created the modern-day country of Bangladesh. This important historical day will forever be etched into the minds of Bangladeshis everywhere.

This is why I am introducing a resolution recognizing March 26, 2025, as “Bangladesh Day” in Pennsylvania. The Bangladesh Association of Pennsylvania, located in Lansdale, is a non-profit cultural organization that seeks to promote Bangladeshi social and cultural activities in Pennsylvania. One of their primary goals is to develop increased cooperation and understanding between similar cultural organizations, a valuable cause as we strive to accept and celebrate the diverse backgrounds of everyone in our state.

Many Pennsylvanians have ancestral roots in Bangladesh. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution to recognize this significant day in Bangladeshi history. Your consideration is greatly appreciated.
