Subject: | Designating September 4 as “Taekwondo Grandmasters Appreciation Day” |
Taekwondo is a martial art rooted in thousands of years in Korean history. Known for its distinctive kick movements, Taekwondo grew in popularity throughout the 20th century, emphasizing a connection between mental and physical discipline through its tenets of Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirit. Today, 80 million people worldwide practice taekwondo. In 2008, South Korea designated September 4 as International Taekwondo Day, in recognition of the day Taekwondo became an Olympic Sport on September 4, 1994. The title of “grandmaster” is reserved for the highest ranking, most experienced, and most respected taekwondo practitioners. Because of the positive impact taekwondo and its grandmasters have throughout our state, I will be introducing a resolution to designate September 4, 2025, as “Taekwondo Grandmasters Appreciation Day” in Pennsylvania. Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution to recognize the contributions of taekwondo grandmasters in Pennsylvania. Your consideration is greatly appreciated. |
