Subject: | Recognizing March as Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month |
Colorectal cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death, leading to more than 900,000 deaths per year worldwide. In fact, there were more than 1,926,400 new cases of colorectal cancer in 2022. What is especially concerning is that the prevalence of colorectal cancer has been increasing in adults under the age of 50, with cancer incidence rates in women under 50 being 82% higher than their male counterparts, up from 51% in 2002. Since the mid-90s, cases among people under 50 have increased by about 50%. A better public understanding of the causes and risk factors associated with colorectal cancer can encourage early screening and diagnosis, saving countless lives in the process. It’s time we stop allowing this disease to claim so many lives. Therefore, I intend to introduce a resolution designating March 2025 as “Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. I hope you will join me in sponsoring this important effort. |
