Subject: | POW/MIA Recognition Day 2025 |
We will be reintroducing SR318 from last year observing POW/MIA Recognition Day in Pennsylvania on Sept. 19, 2025. POW/MIA Recognition Day, established by Congress in 1979, honors those who were prisoners of war and those who are still missing in action. It serves as a reminder to rededicate our efforts to bring our patriots home and care for our military families awaiting word of their loved ones. Since World War II, nearly 82,000 Americans are still missing, and many former prisoners of war live among us today who still cope with the physical and emotional effects of their captivity. The iconic POW/MIA flag was designed by World War II pilot Newt Heisley and was made in black and white which represents the heroism, sacrifice, reverence, and determination of these servicemen and women who will never be forgotten. This is one of the six days that federal law requires government facilities to fly the POW/MIA flag, and it will fly over our capitol building here in Harrisburg on Sept. 19. Please join us in supporting and remembering those who were held captive and those who remain missing by co-sponsoring this resolution. Thank you. |
