Subject: | Hemp Seed as Animal Feed |
I will soon reintroduce SB407, a bill from last legislative session, which would allow for allow the use of hemp seed and its by-products in commercial animal feed for pets, specialty pets, horses, and other non-food production animals. This bill was previously co-sponsored by Senators Costa, Fontana, Kane, Brewster, Dillon, Stefano, Vogel, Collett, and Cappelletti. While the USDA has approved hemp seed as safe for human consumption, it is still restricted for use as animal feed. This restriction creates unnecessary barriers to the potential for hemp as an agronomic crop and the possibility of economic opportunity and sustainable use within our agricultural sector. I urge you to join me in co-sponsoring this innovative initiative to corner a new market for Pennsylvania’s hemp producers. |
