        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           JANUARY 26, 1999

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating February 1 through 5, 1999, as "School Counseling
     2     Week" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Students are increasingly exposed to academic and
     4  emotional challenges in today's advanced society; and
     5     WHEREAS, Counselors are employed by public and private
     6  schools across the country to help address the developmental
     7  needs of students; and
     8     WHEREAS, School counselors play a meaningful role in
     9  assisting students to reach their full potential; and
    10     WHEREAS, School counselors contribute to the strength and
    11  success of every student's educational experience; and
    12     WHEREAS, School counselors are dedicated and deeply committed
    13  to helping students recognize their abilities, strengths and
    14  talents as a means of advancing their personal growth and career

     1  awareness; and
     2     WHEREAS, School counselors work in conjunction with parents
     3  and teachers to help students further their academic and social
     4  development and to focus their attention on goals for the
     5  future; and
     6     WHEREAS, School counseling programs integrate community
     7  resources and scholastic tools to ensure students become
     8  productive members of society; therefore be it
     9     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate
    10  February 1 through 5, 1999, as "School Counseling Week" in
    11  Pennsylvania in recognition and appreciation of the thoughtful
    12  efforts and valuable contributions made by school counselors.
