A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the week of February 17 through 24, 2007, as "FFA 2 Week" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Future Farmers of America, now The National FFA 4 Organization (FFA), has grown from its agricultural beginnings 5 into a broad-spectrum leadership incubator; and 6 WHEREAS, The FFA creed expresses belief in the future of 7 agriculture: "with a faith born not of words but of deeds"; and 8 WHEREAS, In accordance with the FFA motto, members serve 9 their chapter, community and country by cultivating friendships 10 and planting new ideas and seeds of hope wherever they go: 11 "learning to do, doing to learn, earning to live, living to 12 serve"; and
1 WHEREAS, FFA in the 21st century welcomes young women and 2 young men with diverse backgrounds, and FFA membership has 3 reached a 22-year record high; and 4 WHEREAS, Nearly 500,000 FFA members from 50 states, Puerto 5 Rico and the Virgin Islands are learning to be successful 6 leaders in production agriculture, agribusiness, agriscience and 7 other fields; and 8 WHEREAS, Many FFA members live far from working farms but 9 have an interest in related fields like food science, turf 10 management and horticulture; and 11 WHEREAS, FFA members who live in rural areas now represent 12 27% of the national organization; and 13 WHEREAS, Females comprise 37% of total membership and nearly 14 50% of all FFA officer teams; and 15 WHEREAS, Young people across this Commonwealth continue to 16 wear the traditional blue corduroy jacket which distinguishes 17 FFA members; and 18 WHEREAS, State President Kelly Over of Williamsport 19 represents today's diverse FFA; therefore be it 20 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the 21 week of February 17 through 24, 2007, as "FFA Week" in 22 Pennsylvania and congratulate the members, advisers and parents 23 involved with this exemplary youth organization.
