INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, FEBRUARY 15, 2005
A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the week of March 13 through 19, 2005, as 2 "Cooperative Extension Living Well Week" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, The health and well-being of the family is crucial 4 to the functioning of this Commonwealth and to providing 5 individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to achieve 6 the best quality of life possible; and 7 WHEREAS, Psychologically, socially and emotionally strong 8 families provide strength for future generations; and 9 WHEREAS, Cooperative Extension, a nationwide educational 10 network of land-grant universities, is funded cooperatively 11 through the United States Department of Agriculture, the 12 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and county governments; and
1 WHEREAS, Cooperative Extension provides nonbiased, research- 2 based information through informal education to help adults, 3 youths, families, farms, businesses and communities; and 4 WHEREAS, Cooperative Extension education programs are 5 developed at the grass-roots level to meet local needs and are 6 available in all 67 counties of this Commonwealth; and 7 WHEREAS, Information offered by Cooperative Extension is 8 provided by scientists and researchers at The Pennsylvania State 9 University and other land-grant universities nationwide and is 10 made practical and relevant by Extension Family and Consumer 11 Sciences Educators working at the local level; and 12 WHEREAS, Cooperative Extension Family and Consumer Sciences 13 educators are advocates for education for families so that they 14 might gain skills for a full and productive life; and 15 WHEREAS, "Cooperative Extension Living Well Week" is a 16 fitting tribute to the Pennsylvania Affiliate of the National 17 Extension Association for Family and Consumer Sciences (NEAFCS) 18 professionals who provide education critical to the quality of 19 life of adults, youths, individuals and families in areas such 20 as food preparation and safety, nutrition, financial management, 21 healthy lifestyles, home and work environment, relationship and 22 parenting skills and much more; and 23 WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania affiliate and other eastern states 24 are hosting the annual meeting of NEAFCS in Philadelphia from 25 September 25 through 28, 2005; therefore be it 26 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the 27 week of March 13 through 19, 2005, as "Cooperative Extension 28 Living Well Week" and encourage Pennsylvania citizens to take 29 advantage of the educational opportunities that Cooperative 30 Extension Family and Consumer Sciences educators provide to help 20050H0089R0561 - 2 -
