AN ACT 1 Amending the act of October 22, 1986 (P.L.1452, No.143), 2 entitled "An act expanding the available adult basic 3 education programs and the duties of the Department of 4 Education; making an appropriation; and making a partial 5 repeal," further providing for eligibility for adult literacy 6 education. 7 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 8 hereby enacts as follows: 9 Section 1. The definition of "eligible adult" in section 3 10 of the act of October 22, 1986 (P.L.1452, No.143), known as the 11 Adult Literacy Act, is amended to read: 12 Section 3. Definitions. 13 The following words and phrases when used in this act shall 14 have the meanings given to them in this section unless the 15 context clearly indicates otherwise: 16 * * *
1 "Eligible adult." A person who meets the following criteria: 2 (1) Is at least 17 years of age. 3 (2) Is a resident of this Commonwealth. 4 (3) [Does not hold a high school diploma or its 5 equivalent. 6 (4)] Is not currently enrolled in a public or private 7 secondary or postsecondary school. 8 * * * 9 Section 2.
