        AS REPORTED FROM COMMITTEE ON INTERGOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS, HOUSE
           OF REPRESENTATIVES, AS AMENDED, APRIL 3, 2001

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Memorializing the United States Postal Service to issue a
     2     commemorative stamp honoring the recipients of the Purple
     3     Heart.

     4     WHEREAS, There are no current provisions for permanent
     5  recognition of recipients of the Purple Heart beyond the
     6  presentation of the medal; and
     7     WHEREAS, Purple Heart recipients have shed blood or died in
     8  action at the hands of an enemy of the United States and have
     9  suffered permanent and lasting physical and mental anguish; and
    10     WHEREAS, Purple Heart recipients should be recognized for
    11  their sacrifice; and

     1     WHEREAS, The United States Postal Service issues various
     2  commemorative stamps each year; and
     3     WHEREAS, These stamps honor a famous person, commemorate an
     4  important event or depict a natural treasure; and
     5     WHEREAS, Purple Heart recipients should be recognized for
     6  their sacrifices and for the blood they shed for this country by
     7  being commemorated on a postage stamp; therefore be it
     8     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the             <--
     9  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania memorialize the United States
    10  Postal Service to issue a commemorative stamp honoring the
    11  recipients of the Purple Heart; and be it further
    12     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
    13  the United States Postal Service and to each member of the
    14  Congress of the United States from Pennsylvania.
    15     RESOLVED, THAT THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES MEMORIALIZE THE    <--
    16  CITIZENS' STAMP ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO CONSIDER AND RECOMMEND TO
    17  THE UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE BOARD OF GOVERNORS THAT A
    18  COMMEMORATIVE STAMP HONORING RECIPIENTS OF THE PURPLE HEART BE
    19  ISSUED BY THE UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE; AND BE IT FURTHER
    20     RESOLVED, THAT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION BE TRANSMITTED TO
    21  THE CITIZENS' STAMP ADVISORY COMMITTEE AND TO EACH MEMBER OF
    22  CONGRESS FROM PENNSYLVANIA.
