                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
     2     act relating to the public school system, including certain
     3     provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
     4     schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
     5     laws relating thereto," providing for minimum number of
     6     school days after school strikes.

     7     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     8  hereby enacts as follows:
     9     Section 1.  The act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known
    10  as the Public School Code of 1949, is amended by adding a
    11  section to read:
    12     Section 1501.8.  Minimum Days; School Strikes.--
    13  Notwithstanding the provisions of section 1501, in any school
    14  year in which there is a strike by school district employes
    15  against the district which results in the district's schools
    16  being closed, the board of school directors may elect to keep
    17  its schools open for less than the one hundred eighty (180) days
    18  required by section 1501. If the board elects to keep its
    19  schools open for less than one hundred eighty (180) days its


     1  subsidy payments shall be proportionately reduced for such year,
     2  and its professional employes shall have their annual salaries
     3  reduced proportionately. The board shall not reschedule classes
     4  for any day from December 24 through January 1 nor for any day
     5  after the date originally established for the last day of
     6  school. The board shall not reschedule classes on any Saturday
     7  or Sunday.
     8     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
