REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, JUNE 5, 1989
A RESOLUTION 1 Memorializing Congress to investigate the recent surge in 2 gasoline prices. 3 WHEREAS, Within the past few weeks, since the March 24, 1989, 4 grounding of the Exxon Valdez released 10 million gallons of 5 crude oil into Prince William sound in Alaska, gasoline prices 6 have increased dramatically throughout the United States; and 7 WHEREAS, While it is recognized that the spill from the Exxon 8 Valdez was a serious incident with grave effects upon the 9 environment, it is difficult to understand how the loss of a 10 portion of one tanker's cargo would have the effect it appears 11 to have had on gasoline prices; and 12 WHEREAS, No reason other than the oil spill has been given by 13 the oil industry for the recent surge in prices; therefore be it 14 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 15 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania memorialize the Congress of the 16 United States to investigate the recent surge in gasoline
1 prices, and to review generally the pricing practices of the oil 2 industry to determine if gasoline consumers are being charged 3 unjust prices; and be it further 4 RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to 5 the presiding officers of each house of Congress and to each 6 member of Congress from Pennsylvania.
