A RESOLUTION 1 Renaming the Commission on the Future of the Philadelphia, 2 Pittsburgh and Harrisburg International Airports and the 3 Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority and 4 expanding its duties. 5 WHEREAS, The Commission on the Future of the Philadelphia, 6 Pittsburgh and Harrisburg International Airports and the 7 Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, hereafter 8 referred to as the airport commission, was established by House 9 Resolution No.823 of 2004 on July 3, 2004; and 10 WHEREAS, The airport commission was charged with the 11 responsibility to hold hearings for each named transportation 12 entity, during which time testimony was received on the 13 management structure, administration, financial operations, 14 infrastructure, economic impact and current and future 15 requirements of each entity; and 16 WHEREAS, The airport commission submitted an interim report 17 with its findings and recommendations with respect to the 18 Harrisburg International Airport and the Southeastern
1 Pennsylvania Transportation Authority on October 1, 2004; and 2 WHEREAS, On January 30, 2005, the airport commission 3 submitted a final report with its findings and recommendations 4 with respect to the Philadelphia International Airport and the 5 Pittsburgh International Airport, which included the information 6 contained in the interim report, following reconstitution of the 7 airport commission under House Resolution No.32 of 2005; and 8 WHEREAS, The airport commission is committed to continuing 9 its work to assist in the support of these entities and their 10 identified needs and to expand its responsibilities to encompass 11 other transportation entities in this Commonwealth; and 12 WHEREAS, The airport commission's interest and attention is 13 directed toward airport facilities in Erie, Wilkes- 14 Barre/Scranton, Allentown and State College as well as other 15 transportation entities in this Commonwealth; and 16 WHEREAS, The airport commission also maintains an interest in 17 making a comparative study of transportation entities outside 18 this Commonwealth; therefore be it 19 RESOLVED, That the airport commission reconstituted under 20 House Resolution No.32 of 2005 continue its study of 21 transportation entities in this Commonwealth with the purpose of 22 identifying perceived needs and facilitating positive changes in 23 the management structure, administration, financial operations, 24 infrastructure, economic impact and current and future 25 requirements of each entity; and be it further 26 RESOLVED, That the airport commission be renamed as the 27 Commission on the Future of Transportation Entities in this 28 Commonwealth, hereafter referred to as the transportation 29 entities commission; and be it further 30 RESOLVED, That the transportation entities commission may 20050H0151R1122 - 2 -
1 hold hearings, take testimony and make its investigations at 2 such places as it deems necessary and that each member of the 3 transportation entities commission shall have the power to 4 administer oaths and affirmations to witnesses appearing before 5 the transportation entities commission; and be it further 6 RESOLVED, That the Chief Clerk of the House of 7 Representatives be authorized to pay for all necessary, 8 appropriate and proper expenses incurred by the transportation 9 entities commission; and be it further 10 RESOLVED, That the transportation entities commission prepare 11 a final report with findings and recommendations to be presented 12 to the House of Representatives no later than November 30, 2006.
