A RESOLUTION 1 Honoring Susquehanna Depot Borough on the 150th anniversary of 2 its incorporation as a borough. 3 WHEREAS, The Susquehanna County town of Pleasant Valley 4 changed its name to Susquehanna Depot and was incorporated as 5 the Borough of Susquehanna Depot in 1853; and 6 WHEREAS, Susquehanna Depot Borough was at that time an Erie 7 Railroad town whose shops and railroad buildings provided 8 mechanical repairs to the railroad's trains; and 9 WHEREAS, By 1862 the Susquehanna Depot Borough covered some 10 eight acres and employed about 700 men in the shops, with many 11 more working on the tracks; and 12 WHEREAS, By 1882 the population had grown to 4,500, and by
1 1887 Susquehanna Depot Borough boasted nine hotels, six dry good 2 stores, two tailors, six millinery stores, a ladies bazaar, 14 3 grocery stores, three drugstores, three hardware stores, three 4 boot and shoe stores, three jewelry stores, two flour and feed 5 stores, two furniture stores, a music store, a bakery, two stove 6 and tin stores, two wagon shops, four meat markets, two marble 7 shops, a steam mill, three banks, two insurance and real estate 8 offices, two coal offices, six barbershops, two newspapers, five 9 churches, four school buildings, a brewery and a blacksmith 10 shop; therefore be it 11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor Susquehanna 12 Depot Borough on the 150th anniversary of its incorporation as a 13 borough.
