                                  A RESOLUTION

1 Recognizing the countless numbers of Pennsylvania volunteers who
2 have gone to Mississippi and Louisiana to assist with the
3 cleanup efforts necessitated by Hurricane Katrina.

4 WHEREAS, The worst natural disaster in decades to befall the
5 United States occurred on August 29, 2005, when Hurricane
6 Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast with the force of 100,000
7 nuclear bombs and wiped out a geographic area the size of the
     8 United Kingdom; and
9 WHEREAS, Pennsylvanians, many of whom were hurricane and
10 flood victims themselves, recognized that the aftermath of
11 Hurricane Katrina would require a massive infusion of volunteer
12 help to overcome the devastation, and they began responding
    13 immediately; and

1 WHEREAS, Volunteers from our Commonwealth continue to
2 unselfishly stream to Mississippi and Louisiana to help in what
3 has come to be recognized as a recovery that will last at least
4 ten years and probably much longer; and
5 WHEREAS, Without the countless volunteer hours Pennsylvanians
6 have contributed to the recovery, residents of the Gulf Coast
     7  would still feel abandoned and alone in many, many instances;
     8 and
9 WHEREAS, Recognition of this outstanding level of volunteer
10 response is appropriate, even though no volunteer expects or
11 requires such recognition; therefore be it
12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
13 countless numbers of Pennsylvania volunteers who have gone to
14 Mississippi and Louisiana to assist with the cleanup efforts
    15 necessitated by Hurricane Katrina.
