A RESOLUTION 1 Honoring the Borough of West Conshohocken which is celebrating 2 its 125th anniversary in October 1999. 3 WHEREAS, The history of the Borough of West Conshohocken 4 began in 1712, when a family of English settlers built a house 5 along the west bank of the Schuylkill River between Bridgeport 6 and the Lower Merion Township Line; and 7 WHEREAS, West Conshohocken became a village around 1780 and 8 was incorporated as a borough in 1874, by which time commercial 9 activity included two iron furnaces, two blacksmith shops, two 10 wheelwrights, three coal yards, a lumberyard and two general 11 stores; and 12 WHEREAS, The Borough of West Conshohocken grew and flourished 13 into the 20th century and saw many major industries attracted to 14 the area as a result of its proximity to key highways and 15 thoroughfares, including the Schuylkill Expressway and the Mid- 16 County Expressway (Blue Route), part of which passes through the 17 borough; and
1 WHEREAS, The Borough of West Conshohocken currently is home 2 to numerous exceptional businesses, hotels and fine restaurants; 3 and 4 WHEREAS, In October 1999, the Borough of West Conshohocken 5 celebrates the 125th anniversary of its incorporation as a 6 borough; therefore be it 7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the 8 Borough of West Conshohocken as it celebrates the 125th 9 anniversary of its incorporation and honor the borough for its 10 outstanding contributions to the traditions and history of this 11 great Commonwealth.
