INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, APRIL 28, 2011  

  

  

  

A RESOLUTION

Designating the week of June 4 through 12, 2011, as "Fishing and

2

Boating Week" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, Fishing is the number one gateway activity to get

4

people interested in other outdoor activities, is affordable and

5

local for families and helps protect national and state

6

waterways and fisheries, preserving them for future generations;

7

and

8

WHEREAS, National Fishing and Boating Week began as "National

9

Fishing Week" in 1979 when industry and conservation leaders,

10

state natural resource agencies and anglers organized a unified

11

effort to introduce more young people to the sport of fishing

12

and to outdoor conservation; and

13

WHEREAS, This year is the 32nd anniversary of National

14

Fishing and Boating Week; and

15

WHEREAS, In 2001, the Recreational Boating and Fishing

Foundation (RBFF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to growing

2

participation in fishing, boating and aquatic stewardship, took

3

responsibility for National Fishing and Boating Week; and

4

WHEREAS, The RBFF has introduced more than 500,000 young

5

people and newcomers to boating and fishing while raising more

6

than $6 million for state conservation efforts; and

7

WHEREAS, The RBFF encourages state fish and wildlife agencies

8

to participate in Free Fishing Days, as the Commonwealth

9

participates, so that persons may fish in state waters and

10

waterways on dedicated days of the year without a fishing

11

license; therefore be it

12

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate June 4

13

through 12, 2011, as "Fishing and Boating Week" in Pennsylvania.
