INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MAY 2, 2011  

  

  

  

A RESOLUTION

Designating the week of May 6 through 14, 2011, as "Fallen

2

Firefighters Survivors Week" in Pennsylvania; and designating

3

May 14, 2011, as "Fallen Firefighters Survivors Day" in

4

Pennsylvania.

5

WHEREAS, Throughout this Commonwealth, thousands of

6

firefighters daily respond to fires and other disasters, putting

7

their lives at risk with each response to duty; and

8

WHEREAS, Tragically, not all who respond make it back to the

9

station alive; and

10

WHEREAS, Each fallen firefighter leaves behind family and

11

other loved ones in addition to fellow firefighters; and

12

WHEREAS, The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF)

13

was created by the United States Congress in 1992 to lead a

nationwide effort to remember America's fallen firefighters; and

2

WHEREAS, Since that time, the foundation has developed and

3

expanded programs to honor our fallen fire heroes and remember

4

their families and coworkers; and

5

WHEREAS, The NFFF receives no direct Federal funding,

6

instead, it must rely on grants, individual and corporate

7

donations and fundraising events; and

8

WHEREAS, On May 6, 2011, the John F. Byrne Golf Course

9

located in the City and County of Philadelphia will host the

10

Fourth Annual Fallen Firefighters Memorial Golf Tournament to

11

raise funds for survivors of fallen firefighters; and

12

WHEREAS, Following the golf tournament, a Philadelphia

13

business will host a concert to benefit the International

14

Association of Firefighters, Local 22 Widows Fund and the

15

National Fallen Firefighters Foundation; and

16

WHEREAS, Because the firefighting community is constantly

17

available to serve the people of this Commonwealth, it is

18

fitting we honor them whenever possible by helping their

19

survivors; therefore be it

20

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

21

week of May 6 through 14, 2011, as "Fallen Firefighters

22

Survivors Week" in Pennsylvania; and be it further

23

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate May 14,

24

2011, as "Fallen Firefighters Survivors Day" in Pennsylvania.
