        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           OCTOBER 7, 1997

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Commending The Philadelphia Rage and wishing the team continued
     2     success as a women's professional basketball franchise.

     3     WHEREAS, Women professional athletes serve as an inspiration
     4  in developing the ambitions of females of all ages; and
     5     WHEREAS, Women's professional basketball leagues serve as an
     6  historical milestone in the ability of women to earn money in a
     7  professional sport traditionally dominated by men; and
     8     WHEREAS, Women's professional basketball leagues have
     9  generated excitement, loyalty and commitment throughout the
    10  United States; and
    11     WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Rage relocated to Philadelphia in
    12  1997; and


     1     WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Rage, a women's professional
     2  basketball franchise of the American Basketball League, is a
     3  welcomed addition to professional athletics in this
     4  Commonwealth; and
     5     WHEREAS, Two guards, Dawn Staley of Philadelphia and Michelle
     6  Marciniak of Macungie, are Pennsylvania natives who individually
     7  hold outstanding records in professional basketball; and
     8     WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Rage embodies the spirit of the
     9  success of women's professional sports; therefore be it
    10     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend The
    11  Philadelphia Rage and wish the team continued success as a
    12  women's professional basketball franchise in this Commonwealth;
    13  and be it further
    14     RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
    15  The Philadelphia Rage.
