INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MAY 4, 2005
A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. 2 WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees 3 (PASR), officially begun in 1937, has 74 local chapters and a 4 membership of more than 40,000 retired employees of public 5 schools of Pennsylvania, consisting of former teachers, 6 administrators, counselors, nurses, aides, secretaries, bus 7 drivers, cafeteria workers, maintenance staff and anyone else 8 who receives a pension from the Pennsylvania Public School 9 Employees' Retirement System (PSERS); and 10 WHEREAS, PASR chapters conduct yearly community service 11 surveys of their members to document the hours of volunteer 12 service they have contributed to their community. A recent 13 survey showed that members Statewide contributed more than nine 14 million hours of volunteer service in the year; and 15 WHEREAS, PASR's legislative agenda for 2005 includes cost-of- 16 living adjustments (COLAs), health insurance, pension equity, 17 pop-up options, PSERS administrative reforms, retirement
1 funding, removal of restrictions on the number of days a retiree 2 may return to service during a school year and exemption of 3 retirees from continuing education requirements; therefore be it 4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 5 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania recognize and honor the 6 Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees for its service to 7 retired employees of public schools of Pennsylvania.
