INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, FEBRUARY 17, 1998
A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the week of April 19 through 25, 1998, as "Community 2 Banking Week" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, For more than 150 years, Pennsylvania's community 4 banks have provided support for our communities' need to prosper 5 and grow; and 6 WHEREAS, That tradition of giving back to the community 7 continues today with more than 400 locally owned and operated 8 banks through almost 2,000 banking offices located in every 9 corner of this Commonwealth; and 10 WHEREAS, Community banks are a significant employer in this 11 Commonwealth, with more than 30,000 men and women in full-time
1 and part-time positions serving more than 4 million account 2 holders and more than 100,000 shareholders; and 3 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's community banks focus on the 4 prosperity of individuals and small businesses in their 5 hometowns and reinvest in their communities through residential 6 mortgages and commercial, agricultural and student loans; and 7 WHEREAS, Community banks play a significant role in local 8 economic development efforts, stimulating the economy to produce 9 jobs and new opportunities, and as a group they contribute an 10 important and strong part of the State's economic fabric; and 11 WHEREAS, Community banks have made significant contributions 12 to the economic well-being of this Commonwealth through their 13 financial support, their dedication as good neighbors and, above 14 all, their service as financially sound and reliable sources of 15 economic lifeblood in our communities; therefore be it 16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate April 17 19 through 25, 1998, as "Community Banking Week" in Pennsylvania 18 with sincere appreciation for the contributions of these helpful 19 institutions.
