A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing September 11, 2005, as "National 911 Day." 2 WHEREAS, Protecting the lives and property of citizens is one 3 of government's fundamental responsibilities; and 4 WHEREAS, In times of emergency, citizens must have a quick 5 and easy way to summon police and other rescue services; and 6 WHEREAS, The 911 emergency telephone number fulfills this 7 need and proves its value hundreds of times every day throughout 8 our country; and 9 WHEREAS, In 1968, 911 was designated the universal emergency 10 telephone number in North America; and 11 WHEREAS, Thousands of municipalities have established the 911
1 telephone number system, making it possible to save more lives 2 and to increase the public's confidence in local emergency 3 response systems; and 4 WHEREAS, The 911 system has enabled communities to respond to 5 a greater number of emergency calls with added efficiency and 6 lower costs to the public; therefore be it 7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize 8 September 11, 2005, as "National 911 Day"; and be it further 9 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives call upon the 10 Governor and the people of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to 11 observe this day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
