                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Congratulating Bernard Hopkins on becoming the undisputed
     2     middleweight boxing champion.

     3     WHEREAS, Bernard Hopkins' life is a personal testimony of how
     4  one can overcome tremendous odds and lead life in a positive and
     5  productive direction; and
     6     WHEREAS, Bernard Hopkins grew up in an inner-city
     7  Philadelphia neighborhood and went to prison at the age of 17
     8  for robbery, and most of his career was spent in a struggle
     9  against the boxing establishment; and
    10     WHEREAS, In these trying times Bernard Hopkins represents the
    11  indomitable spirit of this country, which allows us all to
    12  aspire to greatness; and
    13     WHEREAS, On September 29, 2001, Bernard Hopkins defeated
    14  Felix Trinidad in the 12th round for the World Boxing

     1  Association title and became the undisputed middleweight
     2  champion, having previously won the World Boxing Council and
     3  International Boxing Federation titles; therefore be it
     4     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate
     5  Bernard Hopkins, the undisputed middleweight champion, for all
     6  of his accomplishments and wish him continued success.
