A RESOLUTION

Honoring Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom amusement park and

2

water park in South Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, on the

3

occasion of its 125th anniversary.

4

WHEREAS, Dorney Park has earned recognition in the amusement

5

industry, drawing countless visitors to its many attractions

6

since its introduction of mechanical rides in 1884; and

7

WHEREAS, Wildwater Kingdom, a collection of water

8

attractions, including water slides, tubing rivers, activity

9

pools and wave pools, has delighted park-goers since 1985; and

10

WHEREAS, Dorney Park originated as a fish hatchery on the

11

Solomon Dorney estate bordering Cedar Creek outside Allentown;

12

and

13

WHEREAS, Solomon Dorney's Fish Weir and Summer Resort, later

renamed Dorney's Trout Ponds and Summer Resort, included several

2

trout ponds and picnic groves as early as the 1870s; and

3

WHEREAS, The resort featured the Mansion House hotel and

4

restaurant; and

5

WHEREAS, Early attractions included a small zoo, games,

6

rides, gardens and refreshment stands; and

7

WHEREAS, In 1901, the new spring-fed pool was the world's

8

largest artificial pool; and

9

WHEREAS, A hotel, casino, bowling alley, Ferris wheel,

10

carousel, pool hall and roller skating rink were added by 1915;

11

and

12

WHEREAS, The Zephyr miniature train has provided scenic trips

13

through the park since 1935; and

14

WHEREAS, Dorney Park's racetrack, developed on a baseball

15

diamond, became an independently operated site for NASCAR stock

16

car races in 1953; and

17

WHEREAS, Dorney Park's Hercules was the world's tallest

18

wooden roller coaster from its debut in 1989 until 1991; and

19

WHEREAS, In addition to thrill rides, Dorney Park offers

20

family entertainment through its Tot Spot midway rides and

21

attractions and its Camp Snoopy interactive family play area;

22

and

23

WHEREAS, Cedar Fair Entertainment Company currently owns

24

Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom, operating hundreds of

25

exciting rides and attractions on a 200-acre site; therefore be

26

it

27

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor Dorney Park

28

and Wildwater Kingdom, a leading Lehigh Valley destination, for

29

125 years of seasonal amusements; and be it further

30

RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
