A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing the week of January 20 through 26, 2002, as 2 "National Nurse Anesthetists Week" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) are 4 essential to the health care system in this Commonwealth; and 5 WHEREAS, Approximately 3,000 CRNAs have provided high- 6 quality, cost-effective anesthesia care in this Commonwealth for 7 more than 100 years; and 8 WHEREAS, CRNAs are advanced clinical nurses who have 9 successfully completed graduate coursework and a national 10 certifying examination; and 11 WHEREAS, CRNAs are qualified to participate in all arenas 12 where patients require the administration of anesthetic agents, 13 including obstetrical delivery rooms, surgical suites, trauma 14 stabilization bays and hospital procedure suites; and 15 WHEREAS, CRNAs provide care outside the traditional hospital 16 setting in offices of dentists, podiatrists and ophthalmologists 17 and for all types of specialty surgeons, ambulatory surgical
1 centers, military and public health services and Veterans' 2 Administration medical facilities; and 3 WHEREAS, CRNAs administer nearly 65% of the 26 million 4 anesthetics administered each year in the United States; and 5 WHEREAS, This Commonwealth is home to 11 nurse anesthesia 6 education programs, the greatest concentration of nurse 7 anesthesia programs in any state in our nation; and 8 WHEREAS, The Philadelphia area is home to four nurse 9 anesthesia education programs granting master's degrees in nurse 10 anesthesia; therefore be it 11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize January 12 20 through 26, 2002, as "National Nurse Anesthetists Week" in 13 Pennsylvania in appreciation of these outstanding health care 14 professionals and their contributions to the quality of patient 15 safety, comfort and satisfaction in this Commonwealth.
