AN ACT
1 Amending the act of July 7, 1989 (P.L.218, No.35), entitled "An
2 act providing for the establishment of a Family Preservation
3 Program by the Department of Public Welfare; and providing
4 for grants to counties for programs enabling children who
5 would otherwise be subject to out-of-home placement to remain
6 at home," providing for preferences for relatives in foster
7 parenting.
8 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
9 hereby enacts as follows:
10 Section 1. The act of July 7, 1989 (P.L.218, No.35), known
11 as the Family Preservation Act, is amended by adding a section
12 to read:
13 Section 4.1. Foster parents.
14 When the department places a child with foster parents, it
15 shall give a preference to individuals who are related to the
16 child by consanguinity, affinity or adoption.
17 Section 2. The Department of Public Welfare shall promulgate
18 regulations to implement the addition of section 4.1 of the act.
19 Section 3. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
