| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Memorializing the President of the United States and the United |
2 | States Congress to initiate the Constitutional process for |
3 | admission of the territory of Puerto Rico as a state. |
4 | WHEREAS, The Constitution of the United States empowers |
5 | Congress, with the consent of the states, to admit new states to |
6 | the Union; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Article IV, Section 3 of the Constitution of the |
8 | United States specifically provides for the addition of states |
9 | to the Union; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Congress should support the right of the citizens of |
11 | Puerto Rico to self-determination; therefore be it |
12 | RESOLVED, That the Pennsylvania House of Representatives |
13 | memorialize the President of the United States and the United |
14 | States Congress to enact legislation to admit the territory of |
15 | Puerto Rico to the Union as a separate state; and be it further |
16 | RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to |
17 | the President and Vice President of the United States, to the |
18 | Speaker of the House of Representatives and to each member of |
