A RESOLUTION

Recognizing the month of September 2011 as "Senior Center Month"

2

in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, Older Americans are significant members of our

4

society who invest their wisdom and experience to enrich the

5

lives of younger generations; and

6

WHEREAS, Nearly 11,000 senior centers nationally serve one

7

million older adults every day in offering a rich and engaging

8

array of opportunities to help older adults age successfully;

9

and

10

WHEREAS, Many senior centers operate in this Commonwealth and

11

have acted as catalysts for mobilizing the creativity, energy,

12

vitality and commitment of the older residents of this

13

Commonwealth; and

14

WHEREAS, Through the wide array of services, programs and

15

activities, senior centers empower older citizens of this

Commonwealth to contribute to their own health and well-being

2

and the health and well-being of their fellow citizens of all

3

ages; and

4

WHEREAS, Senior centers in this Commonwealth affirm the

5

dignity, self-worth and independence of older persons by

6

facilitating their decisions and actions, tapping their

7

experiences, skills and knowledge and enabling senior citizens'

8

continued contributions to the community; and

9

WHEREAS, The National Council of Aging annually recognizes

10

September as National Senior Center Month and has established

11

"It Happens at My Senior Center, My Life, My Time, My Way" as

12

the theme for this year's observance; therefore be it

13

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the

14

month of September 2011 as "Senior Center Month" in Pennsylvania

15

and call upon all citizens and public officials to recognize the

16

special contributions of the senior center participants and the

17

special efforts of the staff and volunteers who work every day

18

to enhance the well-being of the older citizens of our

19

community.
