        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           SEPTEMBER 27, 2005

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Paying tribute to and honoring the memory of Staff Sgt. Ryan S.
     2     Ostrom, a member of Company B, 109th Infantry in
     3     Williamsport, who tragically gave his life in service to his
     4     country while on active duty in Iraq.

     5     WHEREAS, Staff Sgt. Ryan S. Ostrom was a resident of Liberty,
     6  Tioga County, Pennsylvania, and a senior at Mansfield University
     7  completing his degree in chemistry; and
     8     WHEREAS, Staff Sgt. Ostrom was a member of the Pennsylvania
     9  National Guard serving reputably for nearly six years with
    10  Company B, 109th Infantry, based in Williamsport, Pennsylvania;
    11  and


     1     WHEREAS, Staff Sgt. Ostrom served his country on a tour of
     2  duty in Bosnia, where he served with his father, 1st Sgt. Scott
     3  Ostrom, and stepbrother, Spc. Wade Browne; and
     4     WHEREAS, Upon completing his tour of duty in Bosnia, Staff
     5  Sgt. Ostrom volunteered for a second tour; and
     6     WHEREAS, After being called to active duty in January 2005,
     7  Staff Sgt. Ostrom was deployed to Iraq with the 2nd Brigade
     8  Combat Team in July 2005; and
     9     WHEREAS, While on a combat mission in Habaniyah, Iraq, Staff
    10  Sgt. Ostrom tragically gave his life in service to his country
    11  when he was hit by enemy fire; and
    12     WHEREAS, Staff Sgt. Ostrom was posthumously awarded the
    13  Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman Badge recognizing his
    14  bravery and dedication; therefore be it
    15     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor and express
    16  gratitude for the courage, leadership and selflessness of Staff
    17  Sgt. Ryan S. Ostrom and extend condolences on his heroic death;
    18  and be it further
    19     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
    20  Staff Sgt. Ostrom's father, 1st Sgt. Scott Ostrom, with deepest
    21  respect for Staff Sgt. Ostrom's ultimate sacrifice in the fight
    22  for freedom on behalf of the citizens of this Commonwealth and
    23  our country.
