A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the month of April 2002 as "Good Chemistry Month" in 2 Pennsylvania and recognizing the business of chemistry for 3 its dynamism and innovation. 4 WHEREAS, The business of chemistry is a significant 5 contributor to the economy of this Commonwealth, directly 6 employing more than 72,000 people; and 7 WHEREAS, The business of chemistry in this Commonwealth 8 exports $5.3 billion in products annually; and 9 WHEREAS, The value of industry production by the business of 10 chemistry in this Commonwealth is $21.8 billion; and 11 WHEREAS, The business of chemistry in this Commonwealth 12 offers family-sustaining jobs averaging $69,376; and 13 WHEREAS, The business of chemistry in this Commonwealth
1 provides support to numerous endowments, foundations and 2 scholarship organizations Statewide; and 3 WHEREAS, The business of chemistry is a leader in safety, 4 with a safety performance record 4.5 times above the average of 5 all other United States manufacturing industries combined; and 6 WHEREAS, The business of chemistry is this nation's largest 7 investor in private sector funding of research and development 8 initiatives, and chemistry industry scientists and researchers 9 account for one in seven patents filed in the United States 10 every year; and 11 WHEREAS, The business of chemistry in this Commonwealth has 12 reduced core Toxic Reduction Inventory emissions by 66% since 13 1988; and 14 WHEREAS, The evolving science of chemistry enhances our 15 everyday quality of life by providing potable water, medicines, 16 clothing, housing, transportation, radar-evading skin on 17 military aircraft, infrared detection devices and other consumer 18 and public goods; therefore be it 19 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the 20 month of April 2002 as "Good Chemistry Month" in Pennsylvania.
