A RESOLUTION
Recognizing August 21, 2024, as "National Senior Citizens Day"
in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Senior citizens are valuable and esteemed members of
communities across this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania has become a popular destination for
individuals seeking retirement, thus increasing the number of
senior citizens residing in this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania has more than 2.5 million residents 65
years of age and older, and an older adult population growth
rate more than 20 times higher than the growth rate of its
entire population; and
WHEREAS, Senior citizens may face unique barriers and
challenges in their daily lives, including isolation, chronic
illness and limited income; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania offers crucial services to its aging
and older adult population through several State agencies,

including the Department of Aging; and
WHEREAS, "National Senior Citizens Day" encourages
communities to appreciate their senior citizens and raises
awareness about the unique needs and challenges that they face;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize August
21, 2024, as "National Senior Citizens Day" in Pennsylvania; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge all
residents of this Commonwealth to visit or call a loved senior
citizen in their life to check in and see that the senior
citizen's needs are being met and to offer appreciation for the
wisdom and knowledge they offer.
