INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MARCH 26, 2002
A RESOLUTION 1 Designating April 22, 2002, as "Earth Day--Pennsylvania." 2 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania has been endowed with true natural 3 beauty and an abundance of wood, water and natural resources; 4 and 5 WHEREAS, The founder of our Commonwealth, William Penn, 6 praised the land greatly after he saw it for the first time in 7 1682, noting "The country itself, its soil, air, water, seasons 8 and produce, both natural and artificial, is not to be 9 despised"; and 10 WHEREAS, While the House of Representatives has been taking 11 action to protect and preserve our natural resources, passing 12 such measures as the Conservation Bill of Rights, the Hazardous
1 Sites Cleanup Act, the Municipal Waste Planning, Recycling and 2 Waste Reduction Act and the Abandoned Mine Subsidence Assistance 3 Act and recently modernizing The Clean Streams Law, the 4 contamination of our water and the despoliation of our land 5 continues to be a problem and a major legislative concern; and 6 WHEREAS, We approach the 32nd anniversary of the first Earth 7 Day, held in April of 1970, filled with resolve to protect the 8 natural resources of our Commonwealth for future generations; 9 therefore be it 10 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate April 11 22, 2002, as "Earth Day--Pennsylvania"; and be it further 12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives dedicate itself 13 to the proposition that our natural environment must be 14 protected and preserved.
