INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MAY 9, 2000
A RESOLUTION 1 Extending congratulations to the Cheltenham High School Lady 2 Panthers Basketball Team for its excellent basketball season 3 and for winning the 2000 PIAA Class AAAA State Championship. 4 WHEREAS, The Cheltenham Lady Panthers Basketball Team 5 captured the 1999-2000 PIAA Class AAAA State Championship; and 6 WHEREAS, This is the first time in the history of the school 7 a team has won a State championship; and 8 WHEREAS, The Cheltenham High School Lady Panthers Basketball 9 Team includes Ashley Stevenson, Kim Kleinman, Latetia Lindsay, 10 Jessica Foster, Sarah Greenberg, Enonge Midgette, Ashley Grubb, 11 Adia Harmon, Ivy Laws, Kelly Gould, Tammy Frazier, Andrea Jones, 12 Rachel Laws, Amy Bauman and Shayla Johnson, Robert Schaefer 13 (Head Coach), Mike Houghton (Assistant Coach), Lew Wisnoff 14 (Assistant Coach), Richie Schultz (staff), Tony Houghton (staff) 15 and Richard Marburg (Athletic Director); and 16 WHEREAS, On its way to the State Championship, the team won 17 the Hazelton Tip-Off Tournament and the Naples, Florida, Holiday 18 Shoot-Out; and
1 WHEREAS, The team's strong efforts and hard work made it 2 undefeated in Suburban One league play (15-0), and earned an 3 undefeated regular season (23-0), enabling the team to win its 4 14th consecutive Suburban One Liberty title, having a final 5 overall record of 32-1; and 6 WHEREAS, The team's togetherness, commitment and 7 unselfishness helped it become PIAA Class AAAA District I 8 runner-up, and the 2000 PIAA Class AAAA Eastern Regional 9 Champion; and 10 WHEREAS, The Cheltenham Lady Panthers Basketball Team was 11 ranked 14th in the nation in the USA Today final high school 12 girls basketball poll and named "Team of the Decade" by the 13 Philadelphia Inquirer; therefore be it 14 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the 15 Cheltenham High School Lady Panthers Basketball Team for its 16 excellent basketball season and for winning the PIAA Class AAAA 17 State Championship.
