AN ACT
1 Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
2 Statutes, further providing for operation of a vehicle
3 following death of owner.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. Section 1315 of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
7 Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
8 § 1315. Operation of vehicle following death of owner.
9 When the owner of a vehicle is deceased, the vehicle may be
10 operated by or for any heir or personal representative of the
11 decedent for the remainder of the current registration period
12 and throughout the next following registration period, provided
13 that the registration is renewed in the name of the decedent's
14 estate as otherwise required by this chapter. Registration may
15 continue to be renewed thereafter in the name of the decedent's
16 estate by any person entitled to the family exemption until the
17 final account is approved by the court. Handicapped plates may
1 not be renewed under this section unless the person entitled to 2 the family exemption qualifies under section 1338 (relating to 3 handicapped plate and placard). If the person is not so 4 qualified, the vehicle may be registered as otherwise provided 5 in this title. 6 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days. A12L75JRW/19990H0499B0523 - 2 -
