        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MAY 15, 2000

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the week of July 17 through 22, 2000, as "Freeport
     2     International Invitational Baseball Week" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Baseball is a sport which crosses all geographical
     4  boundaries; and
     5     WHEREAS, During the week of July 17 through 22, 2000,
     6  baseball teams from this Commonwealth and the states of Indiana,
     7  Kentucky, Ohio, Virginia and New York, as well as from the
     8  countries of Canada, Japan, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Dominican
     9  Republic and Mexico will gather in Freeport, Armstrong County,
    10  to take part in a baseball tournament; and
    11     WHEREAS, In this ever-changing world the sport of baseball
    12  can bring several countries together to compete in a nonviolent
    13  manner; and

     1     WHEREAS, All teams and players involved can return to their
     2  part of the world and know that they have made friends in
     3  Pennsylvania; and
     4     WHEREAS, If this tournament can help to spread trust and
     5  understanding, it has taken a step toward bringing the world
     6  closer together; therefore be it
     7     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
     8  week of July 17 through 22, 2000, as "Freeport International
     9  Invitational Baseball Week" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
    10     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives express its
    11  gratitude to all teams and players for participating in this
    12  worthwhile endeavor.
