No. 520 Session of 2000


        INTRODUCED BY WILLIAMS, BARRAR, BEBKO-JONES, CALTAGIRONE,
           M. COHEN, FAIRCHILD, HARHAI, HERSHEY, JOSEPHS, LAUGHLIN, LEH,
           McGILL, MELIO, READSHAW, STABACK, THOMAS, WATERS, FREEMAN,
           BISHOP, STETLER, TANGRETTI, BATTISTO, MUNDY, PESCI, WALKO,
           GRUCELA, BARD, STEELMAN AND BROWNE, JUNE 6, 2000

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, JUNE 6, 2000

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Directing the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission to study the
     2     traffic congestion problem created when severe weather
     3     conditions cause a shortage of toll collectors.

     4     WHEREAS, Inclement weather prevented many employees on the
     5  Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission from reporting for duty on
     6  January 26, 2000; and
     7     WHEREAS, The shortage of toll collectors caused extraordinary
     8  delays and inconvenience to motorists exiting the turnpike at
     9  the Valley Forge interchange; and
    10     WHEREAS, Such occurrences should be avoided in the future,
    11  even if it means allowing cars to exit the turnpike for a period
    12  of time without stopping to pay tolls; therefore be it
    13     RESOLVED, That the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission be
    14  directed to study this problem, identify solutions and make a
    15  written report to the House of Representatives no later than
    16  September 15, 2000.
