           HERSHEY, HORNAMAN, JAMES, MANTZ, McCALL, MELIO, NAILOR,
           PALLONE, REICHLEY, SAINATO, SANTONI, SAYLOR, SIPTROTH,
           FREEMAN, PETRONE, K. SMITH, STURLA, WANSACZ, YOUNGBLOOD,

        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           DECEMBER 10, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing the historic impact and tremendous accomplishments
     2     of the 1925 Pottsville Maroons football team, appreciating
     3     the significant advancements and innovations made by the team
     4     in the early years of the National Football League and
     5     strongly encouraging the National Football League to
     6     reexamine its awarding of the 1925 National Football League
     7     Championship.

     8     WHEREAS, The Pottsville Maroons were universally regarded as
     9  the best football team in the world in 1925, following a
    10  National Football League (NFL) record of 10-2 and the defeat of
    11  a team of University of Notre Dame All Stars, which included the
    12  famed Four Horsemen; and
    13     WHEREAS, The Pottsville Maroons were NFL innovators who
    14  helped legitimize the league and turned this Commonwealth into a
    15  true football powerhouse; and
    16     WHEREAS, The Pottsville Maroons were denied their legacy as
    17  one of the greatest and most pioneering football teams in
    18  history; and

     1     WHEREAS, This Commonwealth stands behind the Pottsville
     2  Maroons as a symbol of the rich history of coal region football
     3  with incredible men who, through acts of selflessness,
     4  galvanized the concept of team for the upstart NFL, as well as
     5  generations of great teams that followed; and
     6     WHEREAS, The cause of the Pottsville Maroons has gained
     7  renewed momentum and a national voice on the recent publication
     8  of the book "Breaker Boys: The NFL's Greatest Team and the
     9  Stolen 1925 Championship" by David Fleming; therefore be it
    10     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
    11  historic impact and tremendous accomplishments of the 1925
    12  Pottsville Maroons football team, appreciate the significant
    13  advancements and innovations made by the team in the early years
    14  of the National Football League and strongly encourage the
    15  National Football League to reexamine its awarding of the 1925
    16  National Football League Championship.
