        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           FEBRUARY 9, 2004

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating February 21 through 28, 2004, as "FFA Week" in
     2     Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Association of Future Farmers of
     4  America was chartered on September 25, 1929, is known now as FFA
     5  and has approximately 8,000 members in 147 chapters; and
     6     WHEREAS, The mission of FFA is to make a positive difference
     7  in the lives of students by developing their potential for
     8  premier leadership, personal growth and career success through
     9  agricultural education; and
    10     WHEREAS, The FFA motto, "Learning to do, doing to learn,


     1  earning to live, living to serve," gives direction of purpose to
     2  these students who will provide the leadership for America; and
     3     WHEREAS, This year's theme, "The Cornerstone of Success,"
     4  illustrates how FFA's programs are building tomorrow's leaders
     5  today; and
     6     WHEREAS, The FFA performs the valuable service of encouraging
     7  cooperation, promoting good citizenship and inspiring patriotism
     8  among its members; and
     9     WHEREAS, Since agriculture maintains the number one ranking
    10  as the Commonwealth's leading industry, it is vital for our
    11  residents to have at the very least a basic agricultural
    12  literacy, which can be acquired through participation in FFA;
    13  therefore be it
    14     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives shall hereby
    15  designate February 21 through 28, 2004, as "FFA Week" in
    16  Pennsylvania.
