                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of November 24, 1976 (P.L.1163, No.259),
     2     entitled "An act relating to the prescribing and dispensing
     3     of generic equivalent drugs," further providing information
     4     on drug labels.

     5     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     6  hereby enacts as follows:
     7     Section 1.  Section 3(e) of the act of November 24, 1976
     8  (P.L.1163, No.259), referred to as the Generic Equivalent Drug
     9  Law, is amended to read:
    10     Section 3.  * * *
    11     (e)  Unless the prescriber directs otherwise, the label on
    12  all drugs dispensed by a pharmacist shall indicate the generic
    13  name using abbreviations if necessary [and], the name of the
    14  manufacturer and the name of the prescribed brand name drug. The
    15  same notation shall be made on the original prescription
    16  retained by the pharmacist.
