A RESOLUTION
1 Recognizing the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad Company on its
2 selection by Railway Age magazine as the 2000 Regional
3 Railroad of the Year.
4 WHEREAS, The Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad Company has been
5 selected by Railway Age magazine as the 2000 Regional Railroad
6 of the Year; and
7 WHEREAS, The Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad Company operates
8 139 miles of railroad in this Commonwealth and Ohio, with the
9 main line running from Lake Erie at Conneaut, Ohio, south to
10 North Bessemer near Pittsburgh; and
11 WHEREAS, The Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad Company is
12 recognized for its strategic alliances with Class I railroads,
13 marketing practices and strong safety record; and
14 WHEREAS, The Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad Company helped
15 CSX Transportation relieve congestion on that Class I railroad's
1 western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio branches, initiating an
2 agreement with CSX to move loaded and empty trains from an
3 interchange at Shenango in Mercer County to Conneaut; and
4 WHEREAS, The Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad Company has
5 helped to increase coal shipment volumes this year, which has
6 resulted in the reopening of a portion of a coal handling
7 facility at the port in Conneaut; and
8 WHEREAS, The Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad Company is
9 receiving the 2000 Regional Railroad of the Year award on
10 October 2, 2000, at the annual meeting of the American Short
11 Line and Regional Railroad Association in Chicago; therefore be
12 it
13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the
14 Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad Company on its selection as the
15 2000 Regional Railroad of the Year and wish it continued success
16 in the future.
