A RESOLUTION 1 Honoring the Berks PRIDE team for being recognized as the 2 International Youth Prevention Team of the Year. 3 WHEREAS, Prevention of alcohol, tobacco and drug abuse 4 through the use of peer-to-peer programs has been found to be an 5 effective strategy; and 6 WHEREAS, Berks PRIDE (Parents' Resource Institute for Drug 7 Education) comprises more than 300 members in grades five 8 through 12 in Berks County; and 9 WHEREAS, The Berks PRIDE team, which is sponsored locally by 10 the Council on Chemical Abuse, has conveyed its substance-free 11 message to more than 20,000 students through motivational 12 presentations using song, dance and other techniques; and 13 WHEREAS, The team helps others reach their full potential 14 without alcohol, tobacco or drugs by sponsoring substance-free 15 activities and through community outreach efforts and the 16 example of the team members; and 17 WHEREAS, The Berks PRIDE team, one of 700 teams from around
1 the world, was recently chosen as the International Youth 2 Prevention Team of the Year at the 2002 World Drug Conference; 3 therefore be it 4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the 5 Berks PRIDE team on its accomplishments and on its vital role in 6 the prevention of alcohol, tobacco and drug use among children 7 and youths.
