INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, JUNE 5, 2002
A RESOLUTION 1 Declaring June 16, 2002, as "Father's Day" in Pennsylvania. 2 WHEREAS, A father has read stories, given goodnight kisses, 3 offered advice and inspiration and has been our biggest fan and 4 our greatest hero; and 5 WHEREAS, He has been our ear of patience, our hand of 6 strength and our shoulder of condolence; and 7 WHEREAS, A father has taught us courage to take chances, 8 wisdom to choose which chances to take and humility to admit 9 when we have been wrong; and 10 WHEREAS, A father has loved us, helped us, held us, carried
1 us and walked beside us; and 2 WHEREAS, He is not just a father, but a "Daddy"; and 3 WHEREAS, A father has a quiet wisdom and kindness that 4 sometimes speaks without words; and 5 WHEREAS, A father is loved, respected, admired and adored; 6 and 7 WHEREAS, A father's hands are good for playing catch and 8 catching fireflies, making sandcastles and making peanut butter 9 sandwiches; and 10 WHEREAS, A father has let us ride on his back and carried us 11 on his shoulders when we could not walk ourselves; and 12 WHEREAS, A father could be any man who has acted as a father 13 figure in our lives; whether as a stepfather, uncle, 14 grandfather, big brother or friend; and 15 WHEREAS, Father's Day was first officially proclaimed in 1966 16 to honor the strength and selflessness of our nation's fathers; 17 therefore be it 18 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize and 19 commend all men who are fathers and thank them sincerely for the 20 role they play in the lives of their children and in this 21 Commonwealth; and be it further 22 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare June 16, 23 2002, as "Father's Day" in Pennsylvania.
