A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing St. David's Church and St. Peter's Church on the 2 occasions of their 300th anniversary. 3 WHEREAS, Three hundred years ago, St. David's Church and St. 4 Peter's Church in the Great Valley were founded as missions of 5 the historic Christ Church, Philadelphia; and 6 WHEREAS, The congregations of St. David's Church and St. 7 Peter's Church in the Great Valley played a vital role in the 8 early growth of historic Chester County, Pennsylvania; and 9 WHEREAS, St. David's Church was the home parish and eventual 10 burial site for General Anthony Wayne, a hero of the American 11 Revolution; and 12 WHEREAS, St. David's Church and its graveyard are registered 13 as a National Historic Landmark; and 14 WHEREAS, St. Peter's Church in the Great Valley served during
1 the Brandywine campaign of 1777 and the winter encampment at 2 Valley Forge as a field hospital for wounded American and 3 British soldiers, many of whom died and were buried on the 4 grounds of the church; and 5 WHEREAS, St. Peter's Church in the Great Valley is a 6 registered National Historic Landmark which served recently as 7 the site selected by the Governor of Pennsylvania for the 8 signing of the "Grow Greener" land conservation bill; and 9 WHEREAS, St. David's Church and St. Peter's Church in the 10 Great Valley have sent their parishioners out into the larger 11 community as public servants throughout their history; and 12 WHEREAS, St. David's Church and St. Peter's Church in the 13 Great Valley continue to serve their communities, their State 14 and the Nation as strong civic partners in numerous programs to 15 provide food, shelter, clothing, education, health care and 16 other forms of nurture to those in need; therefore be it 17 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize St. 18 David's Church and St. Peter's Church in the Great Valley on the 19 occasions of their 300th anniversary.
