INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, APRIL 14, 2004
A RESOLUTION 1 Designating April 22, 2004, as "School Crossing Guard 2 Appreciation Day" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Toronto, Canada has proclaimed April 22, 2004, as 4 "School Crossing Guard Appreciation Day"; and 5 WHEREAS, School crossing guards provide an important public 6 safety service to schools and their students throughout this 7 Commonwealth; and 8 WHEREAS, The work done by school crossing guards ensures that 9 the children of this Commonwealth can cross dangerous 10 intersections or otherwise safely make the trek to and from 11 school; and
1 WHEREAS, School districts across Pennsylvania depend on the 2 good services of school crossing guards to daily assist 3 students; and 4 WHEREAS, School crossing guards stand at their posts through 5 rain, sleet, snow, fog and the heat of the day when school is in 6 session in order to complete their duties; and 7 WHEREAS, School crossing guards must possess responsibility, 8 common sense and a good rapport with children; and 9 WHEREAS, Most school crossing guards do their work out of 10 love for children and concern for the general well-being of 11 their communities, accepting great personal risk while 12 controlling traffic at dangerous intersections or along other 13 roadways throughout this Commonwealth; and 14 WHEREAS, The thousands of school crossing guards who serve 15 our Commonwealth, its schools and students can be described as 16 heroes, demonstrating concern and commitment for their 17 neighborhoods in the performance of their duties; and 18 WHEREAS, Operators of all types of vehicles must be aware of 19 the importance of following directions given by school crossing 20 guards and must put safety first when traveling throughout this 21 Commonwealth; and 22 WHEREAS, We commend school crossing guards for their 23 continued dedication and commitment to the safety and well-being 24 of our school children; therefore be it 25 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate April 26 22, 2004, as "School Crossing Guard Appreciation Day" in 27 Pennsylvania to recognize the outstanding service school 28 crossing guards provide throughout this Commonwealth and the 29 risks they encounter daily.
