A RESOLUTION

Recognizing the month of May 2010 as "Older Pennsylvanians

2

Month" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, May has traditionally been recognized as Older

4

Americans Month in the United States, a month set aside to honor

5

older adults who are among our most treasured resources, united

6

by historical experiences and strengthened by diversity, and who

7

interpret events through varied perspectives and backgrounds to

8

bring wisdom and insight to our communities; and

9

WHEREAS, The Department of Health and Human Services'

10

Administration on Aging has announced that "Age Strong! Live

11

Long!" is the theme for Older Americans Month 2010; and

WHEREAS, Increasing numbers of adults are reaching retirement

2

age and remaining strong and active longer than ever before; and

3

WHEREAS, Older adults deserve recognition for the

4

contributions they have made and will continue to make to the

5

culture, economy and character of the United States and this

6

Commonwealth; and

7

WHEREAS, Recognition and respect can be provided to older

8

Pennsylvanians by increasing their opportunities to remain

9

active and engaged in community life; providing individualized

10

services and support systems to maintain their dignity,

11

independence and self-determination; and combating ageist

12

attitudes by honoring their past, present and future

13

contributions; therefore be it

14

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the

15

month of May 2010 as "Older Pennsylvanians Month" in

16

Pennsylvania; and be it further

17

RESOLVED, That every citizen be urged to take time this month

18

to honor Pennsylvania's older adults and the professionals,

19

family members and volunteers who care for many of them.
